Every home is different. Surface condition, previous coatings, repairs, accessibility, ceiling heights, landscaping, furniture, colour changes and equipment requirements can all affect the amount of preparation, labour and paint required. Seeing the project in person allows us to assess the surfaces properly, determine the preparation required, estimate labour and materials more accurately and identify access or equipment requirements before work begins. The result is more accurate pricing, a clearer scope of work and fewer surprises.

When is the best time for interior painting in Edmonton?

Interior painting can be completed throughout much of the year, but we particularly recommend the period from early April through the end of November because outdoor temperatures generally make ventilation easier. When outside temperatures are above approximately 5°C, windows can often be opened slightly to help maintain airflow while larger areas are being painted. The premium interior paints we use are virtually odour-free and available in zero- or very-low-VOC systems. However, painting large wall and ceiling areas still introduces moisture into the indoor air while the coatings dry. During colder periods, a properly functioning HRV or air-exchange system can help control humidity and maintain airflow when windows cannot comfortably remain open.

Is it true that exterior stucco should not be painted because it needs to breathe?

Properly prepared stucco can be painted very successfully with the correct coating system. The critical factors are preparation, moisture content and using a coating suited to the substrate. As stucco ages, it can fade, become chalky, develop small cracks and lose its clean appearance. Depending on exposure and condition, many homeowners begin considering professional stucco painting after approximately 7–10 years. A professionally painted stucco exterior can look cleaner, brighter and more uniform while helping protect the surface for many years. Preparation is critical. The stucco should be thoroughly washed and rinsed several times, given sufficient time to dry deep into the porous surface, and coated correctly. On textured stucco, back-rolling the coating into the surface is a key part of achieving uniform coverage and long-term adhesion. If dirt remains on the surface, moisture is trapped inside the stucco or the coating is not properly worked into the texture, the risk of premature peeling or coating failure increases significantly.
